This comes from Jessica Stepman, NAF's Corporate Partnerships Coordinator:
Hello Network,
The Development team has been exploring ideas for a national fundraising event that each Academy would be able to carry out locally. We started brainstorming and wanted to know about events you’ve been doing in your area that have been successful.
Let us know:
What was the event?
How much money was raised?
Who attended?
How did you publicize the event?
How were students involved?
You can post in the comments section or email Jessica Stepman, Corporate Partnership Coordinator at JStepman@naf.org. We can’t wait to hear about your great ideas!

In the spirit of being back to school, here are three grant opportunities with upcoming deadlines. They are all small ($500-5,000), but with relatively simple application procedures.
Teacher Showcase for Learning Grants – Due October 3
The Teacher Showcase for Learning Grants provides K-12 educators (in the Time Warner Cable Mid-Ohio Division service area) with funding to develop creative learning experiences using resources such as television programs, Web sites, streaming video and broadband tools from cable networks or the Cable in the Classroom organization. The grant program funds school improvement projects initiated by parents. Projects that encourage parent involvement and build stronger community spirit will be favored. Up to $5,000 per school is available. For more information see http://www.toolboxforeducation.com/
Kids In Need Teacher Grants – Due September 30
Kids In Need Teacher Grants provide K-12 educators with funding to provide innovative learning opportunities for their students. Hello and welcome! Chances are, if you're taking a look at my blog you're interested in raising some funds for your school. In this blog, I will be posting regularly (my goal is once a week) with any new funding opportunities I find (theme-specific, region-specific, and general information), as well as tips on how to write stronger proposals, how to do prospect research on your own, and general news of interest to us fund-raisers. I'm hoping that we can also add a library of winning proposals to the collaboration network (but I'd need to figure out how to do that first!)
I'm going to start you off with an opportunity that you should already be familiar with: Donors Choose
You should already know Donors Choose (http://www.donorschoose.org) - the amazing website where teachers can post projects with budgets and individual donors can fund part or all of a project. Several schools I know require all their teachers to have at least one project up there. It's really easy to fill out the form, and you are also able to link directly to the project from your school website or online newsletter - so it's a good way to let supporters know about your specific needs. There are no geographic limitations or thematic limitations.
And a little about me: I've been with NAF for almost a year and a half, and work in the development department, focusing on foundation relations. I write many of our grant proposals, monitor our grant activities, and write the reports to funders.
Please feel free to ask questions!
